Bush Campaign to Low-Wage Workers: 'Take a Prozac'

We knew sensitivity to the problems faced by the underclass wasn't a Bush or Cheney trait. Now we know that that disconnection extends to their campaign workers as well.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A campaign worker for President Bush said on Thursday American workers unhappy with low-quality jobs should find new ones -- or pop a Prozac to make themselves feel better.

"Why don't they get new jobs if they're unhappy -- or go on Prozac?" said Susan Sheybani, an assistant to Bush campaign spokesman Terry Holt.

The comment was apparently directed to a colleague who was transferring a phone call from a reporter asking about job quality, and who overheard the remark.

When told the Prozac comment had been overheard, Sheybani said: "Oh, I was just kidding."

While recent employment growth has buoyed Bush's economic record, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry has argued the new jobs are not as good as those lost due to outsourcing in recent years.

Nearly 1.1 million jobs have been lost since Bush took office in January 2001.

But don't sweat it. Take a Prozac and quit worrying. Never mind that the crummy jobs the Bushian corporate-friendly economy is creating don't pay enough for anyone to afford something like Prozac, or that health care is completely out of reach for most of us. We're all just whiners and we should go get better jobs..somewhere.

Where would you suggest, Sue? India? Indonesia? Honduras? Cause there sure as hell ain't any in the US of A.

The fish may rot from the head down, but the rot gets to the tail eventually.
